Things to do

Listed here are just a few of the things to see and do in and around Orlando.

Golf - With more courses than any other destination in the world, it’s no wonder more golfers choose Florida for their golf vacation. Florida’s climate makes it pleasurable to enjoy the sport 365 days per year. We’re home to the PGA Tour, Champions Tour, LPGA, PGA of America, World Golf Hall of Fame and more professional golfers than any other state.

Disney Magic Kingdom - Here’s where it all started in Orlando’s theme park world, and here’s where you should start. In the face of the thrill-ride trend at surrounding parks, Magic Kingdom has kept its charm, remaining almost quaint with its carousel rides and cotton candy. The park gives pre-schoolers the most age-appropriate choices for rides and shows and the older kids will get the max from the experience. For teens and adults, the magic never dies.
Disney Epcot - With its geographical and futuristic focus, Epcot naturally fits the older kids, teens and adults best. If you have a multi-park pass, however, don’t be afraid to make a stop at Epcot with your younger kids. In fact, when crowds swell mid-day at Magic Kingdom, hopping on the monorail to Epcot is a smart option. The park consists of two parts, Future World and World Showcase (the latter of which usually opens and closes later than the former).
Disney MGM - Here’s another good park for first-timers in Orlando because it offers a lot on the sweet, endearing and tame side of things. Plus, the park’s smaller size makes it less overwhelming for the small and uninitiated. Pre-schoolers will thrill at meeting so many of their favourite cartoon characters come to life. The older kids prefer the action rides and shows, and the teens and adults get a kick out of the actual movie studio aspects of the attraction and the more daring rides.

Disney Animal Kingdom - Kids of all ages love animals – and Animal Kingdom arranges all sorts of ways to engage them, from a petting zoo to dinosaur adventures and environmental education exhibits.

Opened in April, 1998, Animal Kingdom is Walt Disney World's newest theme park. It is not a zoo and not a typical Disney theme park, and not exactly a combination. It's a totally unique concept. Although it is enormous (five times the size of Magic Kingdom), you ride through a great deal of it.

Universal Studios - Excels at turning kids favourite thrill movies into their favourite thrill rides. Children less than 48 inches tall must be accompanied by a parent on all rides. Special lands and attractions throughout the park cater to both the younger and the older sets. Teenagers love scary, extreme stuff, and Universal seizes the opportunity.
Universal Islands of Adventure - Islands of Adventure beefed up the thrill aspect of the Universal parks, and therefore is popular with old kids, teens and adults. Nonetheless, it provides for all ages with comic-book motifs, a good selection of rides and blockbuster shows the way only movie studios can do ‘em.
Sea World - Something about dolphins, manatees, whales and even sharks brings out the emotions in all ages – in a range from delight to delicious fear. Pre-schoolers especially thrill at the simple prospect of seeing the creatures and watching their behaviours. Older kids are more likely to pick up on the park’s educational aspects, as will older guests, who also love the thrill rides.
Kennedy Space Center - Experience the past, present and future of space exploration at the family-friendly Kennedy Space Center. The space complex offers guests an opportunity to meet their favourite astronauts, tour full-size replicas of shuttles and space stations and watch stirring films in the larger-than-life IMAX Theater. Educationally stimulating for adults and teens, most exhibits can also be enjoyed by the youngest of children.

Busch Gardens - Busch Gardens Tampa Bay may be named after the suds-producing breweries, but adrenaline is the most potent intoxicant this thrill-heavy theme park produces. Exotic animals abound for young park-hoppers, but Busch’s strength lies also in its corkscrews, 360-degree loops and scream-inducing speeds. Most rides in the park have height requirements.

Gatorland - Gnarly and tyrannisaurish, ‘gators became emblematic of Florida roadside attractions. Nothing drew in the crowds like these chompers. Many attractions devoted themselves primarily to the prehistoric beasts, including Gatorland, an alligator farm that opened in 1948. Through the years it has introduced snakes and other animals, shows, a get-wet playground and a petting zoo.
